Very Swiss - Restaurant Adelboden, Steinen, Switzerland
Visit to Adelboden was a part of the birthday present organised by my incredible partner. Such an amazing experience is definitely worth a throwback post.
Adelboden offers the most elegant interior one can ever find in a traditional Swiss house. My favorite restaurant interior so far, to be honest. Cutlery, glasses, plates, everything is chosen with a great taste. You have literally lots of beautiful things to see and to touch. Yes, nice napkins and forks make me happy, it was my 31st birthday after all.
Green meadows of Schwyz outside the window make the atmosphere of absolute comfort and tranquility complete. You're a guest at Swiss home: very friendly but with respectful distance.

The dinner starts with a church-like sacrament: a big piece of bread, just out of the oven, is cut before your eyes. You smell it - you're initiated. The first-class fish and meat are cooked in vitro, ideally, immaculate. Such perfection would be boring on its own. But souses are masterpieces of another caliber. Paint on marble. Carry out a laboratory experiment - try the fish with and without souse. I promise, you'll be fascinated by the way they interact. The light vein of humour is the Swiss army knife provided to cut your self a piece of "Feierabend Speck" (evening bacon).
The first attempt to visit the Adelboden was made in March 2018. The e-mail was sent on the 8th (last day of holiday) in order to make a reservation on the 9th. The answer was never received. Quite disappointing was the chef's approach to our special request regarding lactose-intolerance, advised at least a week in advance. The dessert (Mille feuille) was replaced with ... sorbet. Not quite the level of attention we expected.
Therefore, Adelboden cannot get the top rank in Z-star rating. A great restaurant, with errors to improve.
