THE FOOD PRIDE - Zürich Street Food Festival 2018

Zurich is not famous for its street food. 8th edition of the Zurich Street Festival proves that the old prejudices about Switzerland and its biggest city are probably already not true.

My absolute winner of all possible categories this year are Thai Moving Noodles by chef Yaowaret Homberger. With a big beautiful smile she serves Bamee from the window of retro blue bus. Bamee is spinach noodles with meat or tofu to choose plus soy sprouts, veggies and herbs. Altogether a mouthwatering composition. Broth takes the best of the ingredients chosen with a big heart.  The result is a well balanced and strong taste. Put some chilli at discretion to make the flavour even stronger, but be careful and do not overdo. Fish souse, soy souse and peanuts are available on a side.

If you do not make it to the festival until 10th of June (well, if you're a triathlete, you probably don't), follow the info on the web-site: two permanent spots are planned in Schaffhausen and Winterthur. Not sure you can find a better option in Thailand.

Yaowaret and her colleagues were already noticed by GaultMillau and of course posted it on the bus. Why not, if those snobs bring you some crowd. Anyway, you deserve this, so raise you flag high: who knows, Michelin has already given stars to asian street-food. "Wait, I'll make it look nicer" says the chef when I take out the phone to make a picture. "Yellow blue bus" - if you know some Russian.

My favourite stand from two previous editions of the festival was there again. You like shawarma style wraps? Yemen Express has arrived. They are handmade, they are fresh, they are vegetarian with vegan options and they have aubergines! What else can one wish for?! By the way, Yemen is a country in western Asia.

Look at this buns! Taiwan burgers by TurboBao continue the asian expansion on your taste buds. Mongo chutney is responsible for flavour-explosion, fresh veggies - for healthy calories. With pork belly or vegan is not a question - try both, they are worth it, plus the great value for money.

Grab some Coconut Macaron, crispy outside and soft and juicy inside, from Royal Dutch Cocos (most of them are vegan), get a cup of perfectly roasted coffee from the Barista Bike parked nearby, and park yourself under the sun to let the happy vibes flow.

Zurich Street Food Festival 2018 until 10 June 2018 in the Hardturm area in Zurich.
